Back then, I was busy operating a business and I didn’t have the time to make sense of my payment processing. It was a mystery. Companies would hide or embed fees into my transactions that I was either not made aware of or didn’t fully comprehend. It was eating into my bottom line. And as a customer to them, I lost trust in their ability to be honest with me.
So, in an effort to be the change I wanted to see, in 1999 I joined a start-up credit card processing company Advanced Payment Solutions. Our focus was to simplify and provide transparency to the entire process. It was working. In fact, in many ways, it was transformational to the industry. To this day, I still have the first merchant that I wrote 24 years ago.
In 2014, our company was acquired by – and absorbed into – a larger processing company. Unfortunately, our values were not compatible as they did many of the practices that we had set out to put an end to, so I left to start my own – and in 2015, Payment Solutions, LLC was born.
It was a leap of faith, but I had the key ingredients to make it work: The trust of my customers and the knowledge gained from 15 years in the industry. But most importantly, I was armed with the passion to make a positive change.
